Vikas Gowda and Indian sports

Vikas Gowda, a first class athlete of our country won the gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championship in discuss throw. I tweeted on his victory and people asked me about his sport and why sportsmen in India do not do well.
I being a sports person myself and represented the state, know a bit more of what goes behind the scenes than others. One of the most basic thing is that we do not respect sports or sports men. We think that who ever is involved in sports are dumb people or people who have a low IQ. This is the first reason that kids shy away from sports. Secondly we do not have the support system from the family. Most of our parents follow the dictum that sports cannot be a career. Therefore any child who wants to play sport professionally is not taken seriously and asked rather to concentrate on studies.
Another major flaw with the system is that at local level there is very less grooming and mentoring. Most of the clubs have third grade coaches who are morally corrupt and want to exploit students. They are also ill equipped with knowledge of physiotherapy, exercises, food routine, injuries etc. As a result the kids after a point of time loose patience and shift elsewhere. There is also a lot of corruption in the process of team selection. A vast majority of our sportsmen have played over age at some point of time or other.
Finances or the lack of it at the local levels makes it difficult for kids from humble backgrounds to pursue sports. When I played Table Tennis, a good rubber cost something around 1500 and above and that too were not easily available (in the late eighties and early nineties). Today a lot of corporates have come in and are financing various sports but still a lot has to be done. The indifference of our elected leaders and government also does not help.
The district and state level championships are in deplorable condition as the organisers are more interested in their PR and money making rather than on the sport.
But everything is not gloomy and negative. In recent times we have seen good sportsmen and women making us proud at various national and international level. Apart from cricket other sports are also becoming popular.
Sports is a great leveler and it teaches fighting spirit, discipline and accepting defeat gracefully. I hope that in my life time I am able to give something back to the sporting fraternity which has given me a lot.

Chaal, Charitr and Chehra of BJP

There have been a lot of events in the past few days, both politically and non politically. I being a politician let me get into the political matters first. Yesterday the septuagenarian Finance Minister of the state Raghavji had to resign on charges of sodomizing a youth staying at his place which has been corroborated by his domestic help. There were similar charge against the minister some 1.5 years back too, but at the that time our CM did not take cognizance of the matter. However this time, no time was given even for the explanation by the minister. Till now everything is fine, but what ensued has to be taken seriously. There are two issues here which require separate in depth analysis. 

One is not letting the administration work freely and independently. When the victim went to the police station to file his FIR, he was not entertained and juvenile arguments were given for not doing the same. It clearly shows the pressure of the government on our police force and administration. Interestingly the victim went missing after that. If sources are to be believed, he was last seen at the residence of the CM.

Secondly is the allegation that has been leveled against him is that of sodomizing a youth. Raghavji belongs to a party and ideology whose USP is Hindutava, culture and holier than though attitude. They are the people who every year harass people on Valentine's Day, treat LGBT as criminals, talk of protecting our culture. Then how come such a senior leader of  the so called cultured party get involved? It shows the dual character of BJP partymen. They get into rhetorics and incite youngsters in to believing untruth about our history. 

A lot of my friends on the social media with saffron leaning argued about the other people who have been alleged for such things. I just want to tell them that two wrongs never make a right. And why don't they follow their leaders and keep mum on such occasion when they know that they are at fault. Democracy is all about airing our views as citizens and showing our apathy towards certain individuals and groups but it never says not to listen to our inner conscience. 

वर्त्तमान राजनीति विकास की अथवा ध्रुवीकरण की ?

आज पुरे हिंदुस्तान में  राहुल गाँधी बनाम नरेन्द्र मोदी की बहस छिड़ी हुई है। उत्तराखंड के आपदा में भी लोगों ने दोनों के बीच तुलना करना नहीं भुला। हम में से जितने लोग भी राजनीति की बारीकियों को समझने की चेष्टा करते हैं और राजनीति के छात्र हैं उनके लिए यह बहस केवल दो नेताओं के बीच की तुलना या अपने राजनैतिक विचारधारा दिखाना मात्र का नहीं हैं, परन्तु दो एक दम विपरीत सोच का अध्यन है। साथ ही देश के भविष्य का भी आकलन लगाया जा सकता है उनकी सोच से । चुकी मैं कांग्रेस विचारधारा की हूँ और पदाधिकारी भी हूँ तो मैं बहुत ज्यादा दोनों की तुलना में नहीं जाउंगी क्यूंकि शायद मैं पारदर्शी विश्लेषण करने में सक्षम नहीं हूँ।  बस इतना कहना ज़रूर चाहूंगी की जब भी मैं राहुल जी को सुनती हूँ तो कहीं न कहीं अपनी सोच को उनसे जुड़ा  पाती हूँ।
आज हम सब विकास को सबसे बड़ा मुद्दा मानते हैं। वैश्वीकरण के इस युग में हम सब चाहते हैं की प्रत्येक भारत वासी विकास का भागिदार बने और अंतिम पंक्ति के अंतिम व्यक्ति तक विकास पहुचे। ऐसे में अनुच्छेद  ३७० की बात उठाना, सम्प्रय्दायिक दंगो की बात करना कहा तक सही है। प्राकृतिक आपदा में सब की सोच होती हैं अधिक से अधिक  लोगों को बचाने की और राहत पहुचने की। ऐसे समय में किसी व्यक्ति विशेष की बात करना बैमानी हैं।
२१ वी शताब्दी में धर्म के आधार पर लोगों को पाटना कहाँ का विकास हैं? वर्त्तमान राजनीति में ध्रुवीकरण करने की कोशिश की जा रही हैं, चाहे वह किसी एक व्यक्ति को सर्वेसर्वा दिखाकर किया जा रहा हैं, अथवा जाति धर्म के नाम पर किया जा रहा हो।
यहाँ पर उनकी बात करनी भी ज़रूरी हैं जो ६ साल की निद्रा के बाद एकदम से धर्म निरपेक्ष हो गए हैं और विकास पुरुष बनना चाहा  रहे हैं। आप या तो धर्म निरपेक्ष हैं अथवा नहीं हैं। राजनैतिक कारणों से आप अपना दल नहीं बदल सकते हैं।
आज के युवाओं के लिए यह ज़रूरी हैं की वो व्यक्ति की वाक् पटुता पर ही न जाये परन्तु भविष्य की भी सोचे।

Uttarakhand Disaster

A lot has been said, read, heard and seen regarding the Uttarakhand disaster. Everyday the television channels are witness to debates which range from discussing the cause, nature, politics, economics, heroics and what not. All these debates are required and as a part of open democracy should be encouraged. However little is being said or done regarding two things.
First is to go beyond the rhetorics of the causes. Every body knows that we played with nature and in turn nature is playing with us. A few years back I extensively and frequently traveled to Himachal Pradesh. In a couple of years there was a huge change in the climate. The trees were cut without a second thought, dynamites were used for blasting the hills, all in the name of development. Mandi a small place always had a lovely weather but within a few years it became hot and lost its charm. The same thing has happened to Badrinath and Kedarnath. The hills which were once green with black tulsi are now barren, it is hot and the ubiquitous polythene bags can be seen everywhere. The need of the hour is to formulate an environmental policy which is effective and takes local socio economic parameters in mind. Also in such areas a single window system is required for the clearances of projects because unless there is coordination between all the departments, the private players will keep taking advantage of the loopholes in the policies.
Secondly currently the entire focus is on evacuating the people who are stuck there. Little is being said or done for the locals. My friends from my political party who are working there are reposting that entire villages have been washed away along with the infrastructure. They require not only our prayers but short term and long term help.
The state of Uttarakhand has been pushed back by atleast 10 years. A lot has to be done very sincerely and cohesively to restructure the state. Both the places involved are sites of great religious faith, therefore the local governing bodies have to be taken in confidence and made a part of the reconstruction process.
At the end a special mention to all the personnel of the armed forces who have put their lives in danger to rescue them. But again it is calamities like these that give them an opportunity to show their strength and mettle and to give back to the society all the love and respect that they have earned.
A word of caution for all the politicians like me, to be away from blame game and one upmanship. A lot can be said by our party for other party and vice versa but we need to look at the bigger picture. An individual is of no consequence at such times, so he should stop making sound bites to portray himself as the right Prime Ministerial candidate.
Let us all make whatever small efforts that we can make to rebuild the state and also have a bigger vision so that such calamities can be avoided or at least we are better prepared.

Shiv Raaj and Beti Bachao

Last week a very disturbing event took place at a mass marriage ceremony at Betul. The ceremony was under the Kanyadaan Yojna run by the Madhya Pradesh State government led by BJP. Previously too there has been a lot of wrong doings in this program and a large number of social organisations and social activists have raised their voice against it. However the recent development in Betul has crossed all limits of shameful behaviour by any government.
On 7th June 2013, during the Kanyadaan Yojna at Betul where the majority of the couples belonged to the economically backward Adivasi community. In this ceremony more than 400 brides had to undertake virginity test and some were declared pregnant. They were publicly "disqualified" from participating in the marriage ceremony. While this uncivilised act was carried out, there were ministers, ex-ministers, top government officials present on the stage as guests. Nobody uttered a single word of protest while the tribal women were being humiliated in full public glare. Their only fault was they are poor and are adivasis. It was only after the act was reported in the media, that the Collector ordered a probe whose result will come in 7 days. Pressure was also created by Congress leaders and workers and social activists.
For a state where crime against women is the highest, this incidence brings forward a new all time low in the status of women. The Chief Minister constantly can be seen on billboards holding girl child and talking about how girls and women are his prorities, but when such shameful incidences take place he is absolutely mum about it.
In today's world where we are talking about development and equality in all spheres such acts are a blot on the society. It shows the regressive mindset of the BJP leaders and draconian attitude towards the poor. One of the leaders who was present there is an ex minister who a few months back was removed due to his publicly demeaning words spoken against women.

I as a women and a Congressman take serious offence to this act and demand that not only the people who gave the orders to carry out such dastardly act to be severely punished, but also he should put billboards where he publicly seeks forgiveness from all women. I also through this platform want to urge today's youth especially girls to be aware of such acts of the BJP government. We are all free to have different political ideologies but we cannot condone such an act. Women from BJP should also come out and condone this act vociferously.

लान्स नायक हेमराज सिंह और सुधकर सिंह को सलाम और भावभीनी श्रध्दांनजलि

पाकिस्तान ने फिर भारत को चुनौती दी हैं।इस बार पर बात कुछ अलग हैं क्योकि आज भारत की युवा पीढी मुखर हैं आर अपने अधिकारो को लेकर सजग हैं। लगातार युवाओ से यह मांग उठ रही हैं कि पडोसी देश पर हमला कर दिया जाये और एक बर ही आर पार का यह फैसला हो जाये। हमारे पडोसी देश ने हमेशा से एक तरफ दोस्ती का हाथ बडाया हैं और दुसरी और पीठ पर खंजर घोपा हैं। देश के सामने आज चुनौती यह हैं कि वह विश्व स्तर पर अपनी बात रखते हुए अपनी अस्मियता की रक्षा करे। आज के वैश्वीकरण के युग में सभी राष्ट्रो को विश्वास में लेते हुए कार्य करना होगा। हमारे सेना प्रमुख पाकिस्तान को लगातार चेता रहे हैं कि हमें वह मजबूर न करे कि हम कोइ कडा कदम उठाने के लिए मजबूर हो जाये। ऐसे में युवाओं को भी य​ह समझना पडेगा कि युद्ध करना सरल हैं परन्तु उसके दुश्परिणाम दोनो ही देशें को भूगतना पडता हैं। आज विदेश नीती और कुटनीती दोनो की ही परीक्षा ​हैं। युवाओं को भी संय्यम दिखाते हुए सभी सामाजिक वेबसाइट्स पर टिपण्णी करनी होगी और इस संकट के समय अपने देश और उसके नीती का सर्मथन करना होगा।
 आज हमारे राजनेताओ को भी संय्यम बडते हुए बत करनी चाहिए। आज श्रीमती सुष्मा स्वाराज जी कुछ सस्ती लोकप्रियता हासिल करने के लिए जो कह रही हैं वह अशभनीय हैं। वह यही जस्बा अपने क्षेत्र में हो रहे महिलोओं पर दुषकर्म को राकने के लिए दिखाए तो मजा आए और वह सब और से ध्न्यवाद भी प्राप्त करेंगी।

समाज में बढता वैशीपन 
पिछले दिनों देल्हि में  एक लड़की के साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार हुआ और उसके मित्र को भी पिटा गया। दोनों को चलती बस से फेक दिया गया। डॉक्टर ने कहा की उन्होंने ब्लाल्त्कर के किसी भी केस में इतनी हिंसा नहीं देखी। आज के पेपर में खबर हैं की एक किशोरी ने दुसरे किशोरी को छोटी सी घटना पर मिटटी का तेल डालकर आग लगा दी। यह घटनाये अपवाद नहीं रह गयी हैं। रोज़ मर्रे में आजकल ऐसी खबरे सुनने को मिल रही हैं। जब सर्वंजनिक रूप से चर्चा की जाती हैं तो आमतोर से दो मत निकल कर आते  हैं- एक हैं की आज के पत्रिकारिता इतनी सुद्रिड हो गे हैं इस कारण से सभी खबर बहार आ रही हैं और दूसरा पक्ष रुदिवादिता को दर्शाता हैं की लड़कियों की गलती हैं, उन्हें अपने रेहान सेहन में परिवर्तन करना चाहिए। मेरा मानना हैं की यह एक सामाजिक समस्या हैं जिसके लिए सामाजिक परिवर्तन अव्यशक हैं। हम दो भागों में विवेचना कर सकते हैं।
पेहला तो ये की लडको को घर में लड़किओं के प्रति सहनशील और सेंसिटिव करना बहुत अव्यशक। खासकर उन घरों में जहा बटिया नहीं हैं। मेरे शिक्षण के शेत्र में कई बार ऐसे मौके आये हैं जहां यह पाया गया की अच्छे संस्कारी घरो के लड़के भी लड़किओं का सम्मान नहीं करते और उन्हें उपभोग की वास्तु मानते हैं। वह पर माँ, बहिन, शिक्षक, पिता का रोल बहुत महतवपूर्ण हो जाता हैं। उन्हें यह बताना बहुत ज़रूरी हैं की लड़किया भी उत्त्ने ही सम्मान का पात्र हैं जितनी की लड़के। मनुष्य के रूप में सभी का सम्मान होना चाहिए। आप उनके सात प्रतियोगी के रूप में आ सकते हैं, इर्षा कर सकते हैं परन्तु वस्तु नहीं मान सकते हैं।
दूसरा पक्ष हैं आर्थिक आसमंता और टीवी के माध्यम से देख रहे चीज़ों का। आज समाज में अमीर और गरीब के बीच खाई इतनी बड़ी हो गयी हैं की इसे पाटना संभव नहीं दीखता। जो निर्धन हैं यह समाज के बाहरी चक्र मैं हैं वोह अपने को उपेक्षित महसूस करते हैं और अपने रेहान सेहन मैं वही सब कुछ लाना कहते हैं जो दुसरे वर्ग के पास हैं। जब उन्हें वैसी नौकरी नहीं मिलती या अवसर नहीं मिलते हैं तो समाज में हिंसा बडती हैं। और महिलाये सॉफ्ट टारगेट हैं क्यूंकि शारीरिक रूप से वो पुरषों से पीछे हैं। टीवी का नाम मैंने इसलिए लिए क्यूंकि टीवी में जो धारावाहिक, विज्ञापन आदि दिखाए जाते हैं वो एक विशेष वर्ग के लिए हैं पर देखा सभी के द्वारा जाता हैं। ऐसे में सभी की इच्छाएं और महत्वकांक्षाएं बढ जाती हैं। जब वो इस रूमानी जीवन को नहीं पा पाते  हैं तो वो असामाजिक कार्य करने लगते  हैं। आज जो हमारे देश की परिस्थिति हैं वोह सकारात्मक और प्रोत्साहिक हैं परन्तु कही गंभीर चिंतन और परिवर्तन  की अव्यशाकता हैं। हमारे  शिक्षा प्रणाली में परिवर्तन चाहिए और सामाजिक ढाचे में भी। हम 21वी शताब्दी के सब लाभ लेना चाहते  हैं,  18वी शताब्दी की सोच के साथ तो संतुलन बैठ ही नहीं सकता।
युवाओं को आज महती भूमिका निभानी हैं। ऐसे कुकर्मों का सभी मंच से निंदा होनी चाहिए और  आप अपने आस पास के पुरषों को सेंसिटिव कीजिये।
