“Give
respect if you seek respect”, a very old adage that is many a times forgotten
by people. In recent times there is a change in the interpretation of this
adage. In the course of work if you get shouted at or you shout at others, it is
considered to be demeaning the other person. In every organization there are
certain people who like to be very popular and for doing so they keep bribing
people especially those working at the lower rungs. Now the pressure is on the
person who is getting the work done, whether be polite and overlook things or
become a tyrant and get work done. In my experience good administrators have
always been tyrants, who are feared for their temper but are also secretly
admired. Generally the top bosses also like the tyrants because of their strong
personalities.
The
reason for writing this blog is that one of our very old office help was
shouted by me for showing disrespect to the office culture. He felt humiliated
and the top management favours the underdogs. Now the question is that should I
have overlooked his mistake and let him be, because he does some personal work
for me too from time to time for which he gets handsomely paid in cash and kind
or my behaviour was justified? Time will tell.
My
personal analysis is that in today’s time the best thing is to be self
centered, one should be concerned about their personal growth and financial
gains at all times and let the organization do the work. Over zealousness or
over belongingness is bad as all the other “over’s “ are but it becomes
injurious to health if it is for your organization or business or work. Let
things be personal and be self
centered.
